ISDET: A Review

16ISDET or the International Seminary for Distance Education in Theology was born out of a felt need for several things:

  • The need for a free seminary
  • The need for quality education
  • The need for offering these programs via distance education
  • The need for a seminary without walls

Several scholars, Bible teachers, and people experienced in management got together to sift and sort the needs and thus was born the International Seminary for Distance Education in Theology.

Right from the time this group gathered, it was decided that ISDET would be totally free of tuition and that only a very small entry fees (registration) be charged. It was also decided that this amount should not be more than the cost of a single credit hour of studies in a conventional seminary. Students from developing countries were to be exempted from even this small registration fees. The aim was to bring in a maximum number of students, train them, and see their impact upon the church and the world.

The first step was to ask a group of theologically trained men and women worldwide whether they would serve as faculty members. Not surprisingly, all of them were excited by the idea of giving free education and all of them, without exception, consented to be on the faculty.

Simultaneously we started looking for good articles, reports, and textbooks that we could distribute to our students. Once again, without exception, every author whom we contacted was excited by the idea and permitted us to use their documents as free ISDET textbooks.

Many of the volunteers, meanwhile, helped to create Student Handbooks and other guides, and soon ISDET was here: a theological seminary that offers its programs without fees.

If you wish to study theology, without paying tuition fees, and in a seminary without walls, then do pay as visit to the ISDET website.

Both of them have the same core emphasis, but some faculty is different.

“Yes there IS no tuition fees”??!!

If you can’t even get the grammar correct in something as basic as that statement, I highly question how “scholarly” your institution is.

There IS no tuition fees, and I wish to remind you that English and English grammar has many flavours other than what is spoken in your native place. Kindly make sure of such tings before you attack others. (The spelling of flavour is right in our country — British English — but might be wrong in yours. I thought I should tell that to you before you claim that we do not know our spelling).

I count it a great pleasure and privilege to be enrolled as an MTh student of no mean a Seminary but ISDET. I will extol the Lord forever for this opportunity. ISDET is the second theological institution I am attending. However, the structure of the course is far beyond my comprehension. The presentation is in simple language to the understanding of the ordinary person. This approach gives deeper understanding to all who think Theology is so complex. I now have a better understanding of Apologetics. The virtue as well as its genesis, purpose and current status has been clearly explained. What an institution ISDET is? I am grateful to Dr. Johnson C. Philip, Dr. Saneesh Cherian and all associates for their special roles in educating me in theology.
    God bless you richly.

Just getting started in the program. I was in the middle of a project when my start date was assigned, so I will have to do some double duty along the way. The material is very inclusive and academically sound. Am looking forward to getting deeper into the course. Another program will have you read material and write papers but charge you for heating, cooling and maintaining buildings, landscaping and a host of other things that are not part of academic advancement. With ISDET you pay only for the academic part. I teach a couple worldview/apologetics courses and have used some of the initial material, as well as the insight on writing, to improve my course material. Thanks for your support.
